WW2 Veterans

On 14 August, veterans gathered in Kecskemét, Hungary, for a day of remembrance honoring those who served and those who never returned. The ceremony took place at the memorial beside the military airfield, where former servicemen paid tribute to their fallen comrades.

Among those attending were Second World War veteran Mr. István Szeverényi (second from left) and his fellow veteran, Mr. Ferenc Horváth (right). Together with other participants, they represented a generation whose personal memories of the war have become increasingly rare and invaluable.

Photographs such as this remind us that remembrance is not only about preserving history, but also about honoring the men and women who lived through it. As the wartime generation passes into history, their presence at commemorative ceremonies serves as a powerful link between the events of the past and the generations who continue to remember them.

At the remembrance gathering were also personnel from the Kecskemét Air Force garrison present, to pay their tribute to past generations.

The guard of honour placed the wreath at the foot of the monument.
