István Horthy de Nagybánya
(1904 - 1942)

In the early morning of August 20, 1942, István Horthy few his air-plane for his final mission.
70 years ago, he died in an unexplained air-plane crash over the front near the village of Aleksejevka in Russia.

Hungarian WWI. Commemorative medal for combatants.

Most nations that participated in the great war, issued commemorative medals during the inter-war period. The Hungarian medal was designed by the famous sculptor Zsigmond Kisfaludi-Strobl. 
The commemorative medal for combatants was founded the 26th of May 1929 and was issued to any military personal that served during the war, until the 30th October 1918. A non combatant version of the commemorative medal was also issued.
