- Christmas 1942 -
Before departing for the Eastern Front in 1942, graduates of the Royal Hungarian 101st Motorized Honvéd Training Regiment received this commemorative remembrance coin. Issued to men leaving for active service, it served both as a keepsake and as a spiritual token for the difficult road ahead.
The reverse side depicts Saint Christopher, the patron saint of travellers, making the coin especially meaningful for soldiers of motorized units who were about to begin the long journey east. Before distribution, the coins were blessed by Lieutenant General István Háász, Catholic Field Bishop of the Royal Hungarian Army.
For the departing soldiers, the small coin represented faith, protection, and remembrance as they left Hungary for the uncertainty of the Eastern Front.
Today, this remembrance coin stands as a touching relic of departure, belief, and military service, preserving a personal connection to the men of Hungary's motorized forces in 1942.
