Hungary Between Trianon and Rearmament

Original photographs, officer portraits and archival material documenting the rebuilding of Hungary’s military life after 1920

The Interwar Years

After the Treaty of Trianon, Hungary entered a period of profound political, territorial and military transformation. The country’s armed forces were heavily restricted, while military traditions, veterans’ organisations and officer education continued to play an important role in national life.

During the interwar period, the Royal Hungarian Honvéd was gradually reorganised, modernised and expanded. Military schools, youth organisations, ceremonial traditions and veterans’ associations all formed part of the wider effort to preserve and rebuild Hungary’s military identity.

The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original photographs, officer portraits, military school images, veterans’ material, organisational records and unpublished collections documenting Hungarian military life between the aftermath of Trianon and the years immediately preceding the Second World War.
