Military Heritage of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy
The Military World Before 1914
The armed forces of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy represented one of Europe's most diverse military organizations. Soldiers from every corner of the Empire served together under the Imperial and Royal colours, while maintaining their own national traditions, languages and regimental identities.
Within Hungary, military service formed an important part of public life. Officers, cadets and enlisted men served in the Imperial and Royal Army (K.u.K.), the Royal Hungarian Honvéd and numerous supporting institutions that together formed the military establishment of the Dual Monarchy.
The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original photographs, officer portraits, military academy images, decorations, family collections and unpublished material documenting this remarkable period immediately preceding the First World War.
