Officer Corps Across the Years
The Officer Corps
Officers formed the professional backbone of the Austro-Hungarian Army and, later, the Royal Hungarian Honvéd. Their careers often spanned decades of profound political and military change, from the Dual Monarchy through the First World War, the interwar years and the Second World War.
The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original portraits, graduation photographs, military group images, studio portraits and service documentation illustrating the development of Hungary's officer corps over nearly eighty years.
Particular emphasis is placed on officer identification, military careers, promotions, unit affiliations and biographical research based upon original archival material.

Research Methodology
Officer identification is carried out through comparison of original photographs, academy yearbooks, rank lists, military records, contemporary publications and archival documentation. Individual portraits are cross-referenced whenever possible to establish identity, military career, unit assignments and historical context.
As new collections enter the archive, previously unidentified officers are continually recognised through comparison with existing material, allowing military careers and personal histories to be reconstructed over time.
