Officer Corps Across the Years

Original officer portraits, military careers and biographical research documenting the Hungarian officer corps from the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy to the Second World War

The Officer Corps

Officers formed the professional backbone of the Austro-Hungarian Army and, later, the Royal Hungarian Honvéd. Their careers often spanned decades of profound political and military change, from the Dual Monarchy through the First World War, the interwar years and the Second World War.

The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original portraits, graduation photographs, military group images, studio portraits and service documentation illustrating the development of Hungary's officer corps over nearly eighty years.

Particular emphasis is placed on officer identification, military careers, promotions, unit affiliations and biographical research based upon original archival material.

As new collections enter the archive, previously unidentified officers are continually recognised through comparison with existing material, allowing military careers and personal histories to be reconstructed over time.
