Historical Background
The Royal Hungarian Air Force (Magyar Királyi Honvéd Légierő) emerged as one of the most modern branches of the Hungarian armed forces during the late 1930s. Following years of military restrictions after the Treaty of Trianon, Hungary rapidly expanded its aviation capabilities as part of a broader programme of military modernization.
During the Second World War, Hungarian air units carried out reconnaissance, fighter, bomber and transport missions in support of ground operations. Aircrew served during the territorial revisions of 1938–1941, on the Eastern Front and later in the defence of Hungarian airspace during the final years of the war.
