Royal Hungarian Armoured Troops
Historical Background
The Royal Hungarian Armoured Troops represented Hungary's transition from traditional cavalry to modern mechanized warfare. During the interwar period the Honvéd gradually developed armoured and motorized formations equipped with tanks, armoured cars, self-propelled weapons and supporting vehicles.
Hungarian armoured units participated in the territorial revisions of 1938–1941 before serving extensively on the Eastern Front, where they operated alongside infantry, cavalry and artillery formations in reconnaissance, breakthrough operations and mobile defence.
The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original photographs, personal albums, military documents and research material illustrating the officers, crews, vehicles, equipment and operational history of Hungary's armoured forces during the Second World War.
