Royal Hungarian Border Guards
Historical Background
The Royal Hungarian Border Guards were responsible for protecting Hungary's frontiers and maintaining security along the nation's borders. Their duties combined military, administrative and law-enforcement functions, including patrols, surveillance, frontier control and local security.
During the interwar period and the years of territorial revision, border guard units operated in politically and militarily sensitive frontier regions. Their service often placed them at the intersection of national defence, border administration and local security.
The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original photographs, personal albums, military documents and research material illustrating the officers, enlisted personnel, border posts, equipment and service history of Hungary's border guard formations.
