Royal Hungarian Infantry
Historical Background
Throughout the interwar period and the Second World War, the infantry formed the core of the Royal Hungarian Honvéd. Infantry regiments constituted the majority of Hungary's field forces and participated in every major military campaign, from the territorial revisions of 1938–1941 to operations on the Eastern Front.
While supported by artillery, engineers, cavalry, armoured units and logistical services, it was the infantry that carried out the majority of frontline operations. The experiences of Hungarian infantrymen therefore form an essential part of the country's twentieth-century military history.
