Levente Youth Organization
Historical Background
Established in 1921 following the Treaty of Trianon, the Levente movement became Hungary's national youth training organization, providing physical education, civic instruction and pre-military training for boys and young men throughout the interwar period.
Combining athletics, outdoor activities, field exercises and military discipline, the organization prepared future generations for national service while promoting physical fitness, leadership and patriotism. During the late 1930s and throughout the Second World War, Levente grew into one of Hungary's largest youth organizations.
The TŰZKERESZT Archive preserves original photographs, personal albums, documents and historical research illustrating Levente uniforms, camps, instructors, ceremonial events and the everyday experiences of young members during a defining period in Hungarian history.
